Studying society and environment:

A handbook for teachers

Studying society and environment: A handbook for teachers was edited by Rob Gilbert and includes contributions from Malcolm Vick, Pam Gilbert and Helen McDonald from James Cook University as well as academics from other Australian universities.

A 1997 review of world developments in social studies education conducted at the University of Waikato for the New Zealand commented that: "Gilbert's recent book arguably provides the most highly developed conception of what social studies for the new millennium needs to be and how it should be taught. It is probably fair to say that the inclusion of studies of society and environment in Australian National Curriculum and Gilbert's book appear to be the international flagship of social studies at the present time."
