Hello fans, air-conditioners and cool people everywhere. I guess it's kind of my fault that Townsville is at a temporary stand still. Apologies to those inconvenienced by my decision, especially Jude, Alex and Simon.

Unfortunately uni commitments have to take priority over rock and roll until I get my degree. I think the new cover band, if it happens, could be extremely successful with a guitarist who doesn't constantly knock back gigs due to assignment deadlines. After all, as Simon says, Alex is "one of the best singers around" with a power and versatility quite rare in this town.

It's not even a fortnight since our Ayr gig and I already miss it dearly. Getting paid to party, with friends.
There's only a couple more months of this year. In the mean time, I'm sure The Sationwagon, Chinchy, Sweet Salt and Alex's prodigious Groovebox sets will ameliorate the void left by Townville.

Simon - Wed Sep 4 10:21:56 2002
Hey guys, I promised the fans you were gonna write somethin about the end of the band as we know it, etc... So go on then! PS, I was only kidding about The Laxatives... The real name would obviously have to be "Chamber". Actually that's pretty good... What do you reckon?

SIMON'S PACIFIER GIG REVIEW
Date: Sat 31st August
Venue: Uni Refect
Bands: Pacifier, The Stationwagon

Firstly let me say that before the show I would not have called myself a Pacifier (pka Shihad) fan. I liked their new song Comfort Me which has gotten some airplay recently, but other than that I had not really given them much attention. When they opened with that song, (which did really kick arse btw), I found myself cynically thinking "well that's their good stuff used up already". I was wrong!

They followed it up with great rock song after great rock song. I was impressed. I think at a live gig Pacifer make more sense. The volume and the energy means the songs work better than say wedged between Shakira and Eminem videos on Channel V. "This is what rock and roll is all about", I thought and a smile appeared on my face that didn't go away for quite a while.

Jon Toogood has good deal of charisma and plain likeability which won the eager crowd over in about two seconds flat. The sound was fantastic. (Credit needs to go to the guys from Talkin' Audio who I think pulled out all their best gear for this show. The only down side was that it made the Music Bus sound the next day seem crap by comparison...) The crowd close to filled the refect and while it seemed to get a little less crowded as the set went on there were a pretty large number of fans who stayed the distance and left wanting more. The good sound/good crowd combination lifted things well into that sweet zone you hope to find at all live shows. I think the band were happy and a little surprised to find all this so far from a capital city, especially when the crowd sang along to songs from the new album. Jon's mini set on the acoustic guitar was a highlight for me as was the eponymous 'Pacifier'. Credit also to the band for hanging around after the show, signing autographs and talking to fans instead of taxiing back to their hotel like rock stars.

Support band The Stationwagon did a pretty good job of warming up the crowd. They managed to entice a lot of people away from the bar and got heads nodding and feet tapping. This was probably their biggest gig ever and they handled the pressure well, except perhaps for Jude who took up smoking again to calm his nerves (after quitting for six weeks), and me, who at one point had a mental blank on stage trying to remember the song 'Talk To Me'.

The Stationwagon enjoyed performing with a professional quality sound system and by all reports fans of the band enjoyed it too. For me it was good to hear Drew's vocals out front a little more than at our usual gigs where they sometimes get a bit lost behind the guitars. Hopefully the wider than usual audience means a few new fans were found. Drew partook in a little bit of barrier leaping and somehow managed to dive head first over the security barrier, mosh about a little with his guitar and climb back to the stage all without losing his lead! Apparently the tour manager for Pacifier saw the set and wants to get a hold of a demo, so who knows, this gig might lead to big things for The Stationwagon.

Congrats to 5*80 for winning the campus battle of the bands 2002. You guys are great.

Alex - Mon Jul 15 15:24:56 2002
YO!

Are you still keepin' it real?
It sure has been a long time since i posted one of my witty rhetorical entries, and i was thinkin' to myself why? why? why? why?

HAH! crazy shit HUH.
Well things have been pretty quiet lately in the "townsville" camp, but things are bound to pick up with activities week comin along soon, so be prepared for fun, laughter, excitment as well as a mixure of pleasure and pain WoooHoooo!!!

R.I.P. Townsville (the band) 1999 - 2002

Only joking!!!
We're going good as a cover band and tonight will find out if our originals still cut it. Had a busy night last night finishing one gig at 9:30pm and starting the next at 10pm. Good thing the venues weren't on opposite ends of the city. Thanks to DJ from the Inklings/Club Zucchini for loaning his drums so we could have a kit set up at each venue. Made the transition A LOT smoother.

Plans for the near future:
Look out ladies. It's not long before Alex will be wanting get wit'cha, and take your picture. ??? ;)
You can also expect to see Alex shakey shaking his love thing a lot more after he rediscovered the joys of dancing last night.
More gigs at Club Millenium are on the way and someone heard something about possibly playing at the Brewery. Sounds good to me.

It's crunch time at university for Alex and I. I think the stress will probably translate into our next couple of gigs.
Speaking of gigs, we played on top of the sugar shaker a week or so ago and it was FUN! Simon's gonna scan in some photos for your perusal soon. There's a couple of pics he might leave out though. Simon had HEAPS of FUN. Alcohol can be a wicked demon. ;)
Jude and Simon have been in Cairns this weekend, playing with The Stationwagon for the release of a cd they feature on.
Make sure you're at the 'Sunday Seven' at the Commonwealth next weekend. The Inklings are releasing their new album 'Collage' and yours truly will be playing my first gigs with them (Inklings) and a new band called Nozzle. Plus there'll be Townsville, The Stationwagon and another of Jude's bands, Sweet Salt. Alex will be the only monogamous member!
That's enough procrastination for now. Time to get back my assignment that's due tomorrow. Good luck to anyone doing exams in the next few weeks!

Scott - Wed May 1 09:53:19 2002
Pinch and a punch for the first of the month.
It seems Alex has dismounted the Pale Horse and's ready for action again. We're all set to play the Commonwealth this Sunday and another night(mare) at Bludgers next Friday.

Simon - Fri Apr 12 11:55:46 2002
Well maybe not literally goosebumps, but I do find it to be a very moving song. It is really a great song I think, and Alex does sing it very well. PS, Killing Heidi was great.

Simon - Tue Apr 9 09:01:59 2002
I agree with Scott. Exchange gigs were pretty good. Definitely a hipper crowd that say the Vale, or the Causeway on a Saturday afternoon! Anyone who has not heard Alex sing Unchained Melody yet - do yourself a favour and get down there this weekend. It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it... Really. :) PS, The Mules are damn good. PPS, what's this about scrapping Superconductor?! That's one of my favourites! Actually I think right now it's my equal favourite, alongside Hard Time.

Scott - Tue Apr 9 00:55:34 2002
Just had a great weekend of music. I was really happy with our original set for the first time in a long time. It helped when someone requested "Superconductor" just before we started. I was amazed that someone, other than our friends, knew the name of any of our songs, let alone liked one enough to notice it missing last time they saw us play! We proceeded to botch it up (doh!) but at least we know we should practice it and not scrap it from our set.
Then there was the Exchange. It's starting to feel like we're in a professional cover band. Errrrgghhh. It's not all that bad though. It's actually kinda fun. Making people happy is always good (unless they're the sort of people who like watching executions). We had a couple of cameo appearances. Sheridan, of Venus Man Trap fame, backed up Alex on "Mustang Sally", while Eugene (superstar frontman of The Mules) gave us a few harmonies with his friend Dan. And that was just Friday night!
On Saturday, Allan Boulton (an old bandmate of Judes) gave us "Funky Town" on guitar and vokes and helped out Alex Beastie Boys style on "Funky Cold Medina". I guess he must be a funky guy in general.
Alex sang "like a god" the whole weekend despite the fungus growing on his vocal cords. Jude drummed solidly too. Impressive because, due to playing in three other bands at the Uni, he essentially belted away for EIGHT HOURS on Friday. And the less said about pathological chatterbox Simon Baird, the better. I will mention this however; I swear I saw him moving his head towards the end of Everybody Hurts. Could this be the start of Simon's experimentation with crazy new rock moves?

Scott - Thu Mar 28 21:36:38 2002
Happy Easter.

Rockbot Show Rocks
Around 250 music fans showed up to see 10 of Townsville's finest original bands at the Townsville Showgrounds country club. The night was a huge success and set a whole new standard for original music events in Townsville. Give Jude a slap on the back next time you see him for putting this show together.

Time for another entry from the guitarist, bursting with positivity as usual.
University has started again and now we're joined by our beloved frontman Alex. Unfortunately though, the TESAG computer facilities will no longer be graced with dearly departed Jude's 24hr assignment cramming, as he has gone on to persue his God given career as a professional musician. And after last nights practice, I'm glad he's chosen to include us in his decision.
It was a spine-tinglingly great night, with a couple of pumping new covers and happily finding we can still remember how to play our originals.
Despite Alex reporting possible vocal problems with his recovering sore throat, he gave some of the best performances I have ever witnessed. And Simon... as usual, we couldn't shut him up.

Two sleeps 'til Valentines day! I'm so excited. It's my favourite day of the year!
A lick of salt and a taste of honey is all the busy badger needs. Then it's off to the infirmary for the slower critters, those who fail to escape the blow of Cupid's arrow.

What...! Still waiting for, the movie?

Hmm, whatever happened to Teenage Dirtbag?*

It's time to pack up those Christmas decorations and get on with things. It's a good thing that Christmas only comes once a year, but if you would like to relive a little of the magic that was Christmas 2001 you could try this. :)

Scott - Tue Jan 1 12:19:21 2002
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We started laying drum tracks yesterday. Thanks to Drew and Zoe for letting us use their kit and kaboodle. We don't know exactly how many songs we're going to record but it should be a chunky cd. I'm excited!

Scott - Fri Dec 21 09:04:18 2001
It's begining to look a lot like we've played our last gig for the year. At least it was a good one, at Sheridan's '89 Prom Party.

New years, huh? Ya know, this was a new year once. Getting old now though.

And it's only 9am!

Scott - Mon Nov 19 10:15:03 2001
Our surroundings are constantly changing as we approach the Christmas season. For instance, the supermarkets are decorated with tinsel-for-sale and the bugs are taking longer to count.
Yes, Townsville is a unique place where it's Thursday one day, Friday the next. Ummm...

Simon - Mon Nov 5 14:41:43 2001
how about 'the old man and the sea' by ernest hemmingway... it might remind you of our excellent gig on friday night. except for the part about the big fish.

Alex - Sat Nov 3 04:01:56 2001
I forgot to mention just below , that during oour gig ,at the jounalism ball Simon , broke a string on his bass..........thats how hard we rocked .............even though the string broke during our first few songs (our "slow easy listening set")...........we still rocked hard , and Simon (being the musical genius he is ), played absolutely flawlessly without his A string .
ok i need sleep.
just to let the fans know the book i am reading at the moment is
"Moonwalk" by Michael Jackson. Its ok , but i need something good , if u know any good books i can read please don't hesitate to email me.

Hey Hey people, back for another quick update. I'ts been awhile i know, but hey what are ya gonna do about it ? (thats a rhetorical question , but if u wish to answer that u can always email me).
well let me start by sayin , Townsville(the band) has been moving along sweetly, and Townsville(the city) has been full of suprises.
For Example:
On wednesday i was at the Castletown traffic lights , when to gentlemen, in an unmrked white van, asked me if i was interested in some speakers. Well of course i said yeah, and then they asked me pull over just ahead of the lights, where they proceeded to tell me that their boss had over ordered stock( home theatre system speakers to be correct), and that they had to sell them as fast as possible as to gain there 200 dollar bonus. The speakers are worth 1200 dollars each , , they offered to sell me the pair for 800 dollars. I said , i don't know , as i was late for an optometrist appointment , and then he said he would do it for 600 bucks ( the whole time his partner in sales , was telling me what an "awesome deal" i was getting). So they followed me to the teller machine ,where i got a reciept an a 5 year warrenty( not to metion an awesome deal these speakers rock , best buy ever .......and it was all done on the street ....now thats crazy )
Now speaking of crazy ,Townsville( the band) played at "Infusion" at the Exhange hotel on thursday night , it was ok. basically just practising our cover songs , suprisingly enough the crowd wanted an encore.
but less than 8 hours ago now , we played for the James Cook University Journalism Ball, which took place on the on the wave piercer 2000, circling around the Townsville bay area.
It was a great night , altho i must admit to feeling a little seasick at first but all went away and it was all great, the punters really appreciated what we had to give them, and it was a great night all round ..........what more can i say .....but thanks to Jerra for handling our sound for the night , it was great not to worry about it , and know that we were in safe hands. Oh and also thanks to Scott and Jude and Simon for a great night.
u guys did awesome!!.
well, thats enough for me now , the alcohol is really starting to take effect.
Watch out for GrooveBox LX (coming soon to a venue close to u).
cheerio
until next time

Hi fans! Just want you to know that rumours of Townsville splitting up are completely unfounded. Why would we split up now when gigs are getting funner and funner? Life is a blissful presentation of splendour and harmony these days and there ain't no rumours gonna be getting us down! May you have many joyous interactions with your fellow human beings.

Alex - Mon Jul 30 02:06:19 2001
we saw
we came
we concurred?
well, maybe,
A little show called the "SHLOCK SHOP ROCKBOT SHOW" saw a young and up and coming band, Townsville, strut there stuff on the big stage with the likes of , Stationwagon, Sweet Salt , and Fear of the Lbrary.
the night held a spectacular folly of friends , laughter , talking and saying hello , sitting on the door and taking money from people, good music , drinking, did i say good music?, frollicking, and bbq.
it was in short a success.
even shorter, it was good.
even shorter, yea.
well enough 0f my so called "review" of the night, coming up next we have a competition to win a brand new honda road bike .....stay tuned after the comercial to find out more..............................................

Simon - Fri Jul 20 09:33:25 2001
I love that part about their dozey sheep faces...

Scott - Mon Jul 16 12:11:13 2001
It's interesting that Simon should focus on Sue's "sheep" comment for the title of her page. Interesting because last night Alex and I started work on a new song called "Counting Sheep".
Me thinks the N'Sync fans out there are gonna love it!

I think I think my dumbest thoughts when I'm on the internet.

Scott - Fri Jun 8 11:42:13 2001
After attending a clinic for Rock Guitarists on the weekend, I have a new awareness of "lateral modes" and "disco techniques". It's only a matter of time before these exciting new musical philosophies are incorporated into the band. This should keep the music fresh for another year or so...
On the personal side of things, Sandra and I are engaged to be married! The wedding will be at the Holy Matrimony Church in Mundingburra on Saturday, 13th October. Please come as we would like to share our vows with as many people as possible.
For a dose of reality, I suggest severing a couple of toes with a butchers knife. Yours or someone else's, it doesn't matter. The reality will probably be more noticable if you cut your own toes off though.

Alex - Tue May 29 16:42:52 2001
phewww! what a day, what a day, to look it in the face and hold your vomit. i tell ya it's been strange.
Today saw the departure of 2 of townsville's greatest fans. nick, who always yelled showusyawizza at damn near every gig, and his delightful ladyfriend megan. they are off to the jolly old land of england, armed with a live recording of our original material (their only survival kit). have fun guys. remember townsville will always be in your hearts.
also today, i went to sell townsville's original P.A (used at every high rollers, fresh, and gutbucket, and our other early gigs) at our local cash converters.
I brought it in with bubbles (aka scott), they asked us how much i wanted for it, then took it out to the back to test it to see if it worked. In the meantime bubbles and i cruised around the shop checking out some cool, and some not so cool items. Within 10 mins the townsville CIB (police), were questioning bubbles and i to see if it was our P.A, as there were alleged reports of a jade system being stolen.
After a few jokes, a searching of bubbles car and school bag, a phone call to the music store where i purchased the P.A, it was finally resolved that it was our P.A. thanks to the good memories of the staff at Artie's (hey that could be considered as advertising, which thus entitle me to free equipment. does it not? email me with your answer. all answers will be replied).
Anyway, after wasting 3/4 of an hour at cash converters, and being made to look like petty crims, we left with a rather dismal offer and then had lunch.
what a day.
oh you can also see our jade P.A system at our next gig. It will be signing autographs from 5-5:30pm.
have a great day. peace out and if you want email me.

Alex - Mon May 21 22:21:26 2001

The hills were alive on Saturday night at Club 69... The light show was awesome and we had some groovin' tunes to listen to between bands. (Nice work Scott :). A pretty good crowd showed up, perhaps since word spread about the free Chupa-chups. We played a bunch of our brand new songs and a few old favourites to an appreciative audience. The Stationwagon followed with a fine set, and the large numbers of Audesys fans were treated to a solid final set. Thanks to all of you who showed up (we love yous) and congrats to Drew and Zoe for organising such a successful event. Guys, is there any hope for Sound of Music II? PS, check out Sonia Tobiano's review of the night here.

And time can do so much...
I've just come home from a relatively brief band practice. We've got a long way to go before the 'Sound Of Music' night in May but I'm feeling pretty certain (if ya catch my drift).
While I've got you here, I'd like you all to know that "GREEN APPLE CAT - The Album" will be available by Christmas.
Place your order today!

Saturday night at the Vale seemed like a pretty good gig despite a few well covered (?) screw-ups and the fact that we didn't know any Metallica. Someone made an interstate phone call so her friend could hear one of our songs...
Top 3 good things about playing at the Vale:
 3. nice air conditioning
 2. you can watch the footy
 1. you get to knock off at midnight
Top 1 bad things about playing at the Vale:
 1. no free beers for the band...

It seems the other fellas ain't gonna write nut'in', so here goes: I'm havin' a swell ol' time playing with this here band. We done real good, (best yet I say), at Ed's party just gone! Yes indeed,'tis a mighty fine time to be playing the rock and roll.

Scott - Mon Feb 12 15:14:51 2001
And time goes by so slowly... "Another practice, another lifetime of experience." Things have been quite jovial in the TOWNSVILLE camp lately. Jude's been acting a right larakin and Alex and Simon's banter refuses to cease. Despite their ragamuffin behaviour, I haven't had too much trouble keeping them in line. We're all working well together and expect to ROCK SUPREME at our next public encounter.

Simon - Thu Feb 8 17:54:21 2001
2001 Update: Alex is back from Sydney. Scott is back from Perth and finished exams. Time to see if we can still remember all our songs. Alex's version of Teenage Dirtbag is starting to sound awesome!
