Apart from a best forgotten performance at a battle of the bands contest
at the Lava Lounge, Townsville's first gig was at the presentation of the 1999 NQ Archibald prize for
portraiture at Northtown in the the Mall where Scott was featuring in one of the portraits.*
After an appearance at a gallery opening at Teakle's, Townsville went on then to become house band at live music nights organised by
the members of The Stationwagon. Townsville
played a one hour set every fortnight at
"High Rollers" (The Sovereign), "Gut Bucket" (The Newmarket) and "Fresh" (The Exchange). These venues were
showcases for local original live music and developed a large following
of live music fans. Fresh was cut short prematurely when The Exchange was
closed down by health inspectors.
After increasing the size of their repertoire of cover songs Townsville started to play full length
gigs in pubs including The Australian, The JCU Club, The Hermit Park and The Causeway.
Townsville also picked up second prize for their original songs at the 2000 JCU Campus
battle of the bands.

Townsville was officially disbanded in June 2003 after eight months of inactivity.
