The Venue

The Venue Coconut Beach Resort (website) is a spectacular four star international resort located on the beach-front where World Heritage Lowland Tropical Rainforest meets the Coral Sea, 3 km south of Cape Tribulation (thank Captain Cook for the incongruous name: he ran aground on a bed of coral in 1770 and called the point Cape Tribulation because "… here began all my troubles").

The 40 'rainforest villas' and 27 'hillside rooms', all constructed from polished native woods, are scattered across a gently sloping rainforested slope. 20 smaller "eco-lodges" are located 200 metres away. A hundred metres from the villas and rooms (300 metres from the eco-lodges) is a large open-plan wooden long-house with restaurant, bar, gift shop and a free-form saltwater pool. There are no other buildings within several kilometers of the resort. Twenty metres from the long-house is a pristine tree-fringed sand beach.

All rooms and lodges are fully screened and equipped with showers, toilets and overhead fans. Rooms do not contain televisions or telephones (they are available at other places in the resort).
