THE LONG-AWAITED SECOND CIRCULAR FOR CAM: 2001!

Your organising committee apologises for the delay in sending this out! In common with the Aussie dollar, your organising committee has had a couple of semesters from hell! We hope this circular provides the information you require for attending CAM: 2001. Note that the deadlines given are deadlines, i.e. final dates. This circular can also be found at the CAM: 2001 web site at http://homes.jcu.edu.au/~btjah/home.htm.

5. ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation will be at Coconut Beach Resort, there is no alternate accommodation (or camping areas) in the vicinity.

Each CAMologist will be responsible for booking their accommodation. YOU NEED TO BOOK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, IF YOU DO NOT BOOK ON TIME WE WILL BE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE YOU!!

A 10% deposit is required by the resort by March 31st 2001 (but you should book your room before this!). If the deposit is not received, they will cancel your booking.

Three types of accommodation are available

All prices quoted include 10% GST.

  1. Hillside units (the recommended option)
  2. A$189 per room per night for 1-3 nights, fourth night is A$132 (i.e. the cost for 2 people sharing a unit for the entire conference would be A$349.50, or about A$87/per person/per night). The rooms, which are grouped around a swimming pool, can be configured as single, double or twin (i.e. 2 separate beds). Each unit has its own shower and toilet.

Children aged 0-3 are free, children aged between 4-14 are A$28/night extra.

  3. Ecolodge units (probably the best for poor grad students!)
  4. A$53 per person per night for 1-3 nights, fourth night is A$56. Ecolodge units, 5 min walk from the conference venue and breakfast building. They are a bit spartan but clean, secure and each room has its own toilet and shower. The rooms, which accommodate up to 4, were designed as accommodation for visiting school students. Units holding 4 people contain two double bunks, units for two contain two single beds.

  5. Rainforest villas (these are a bit up-market for humble scientists – but if you are in holiday mood!)

A$277 per room per night for 1-3 nights, fourth night is A$194. The rooms can be configured as single, double or twin (i.e. 2 separate beds). Each ‘villa’ has one queen or twin beds with a double fold-out sofa bed. Optimum capacity is double or twin, with third adult or two children on the double sofa bed. Furniture is tropical wickerwork.

Descriptions of the hillside units and rainforest villas (but not the ecolodge units) can be found at the Coconut Beach web site to http://www.coconutbeach.com.au.
